While I was working on this painting, I was thinking a lot about language and mark-making, not at all about water or gardens, but sometimes the result is a surprise to me. Maybe I was subconsciously channeling my France trip from several years ago, and the incredible experience of painting in Monet’s garden with some fellow students. In any case, here it is, done!

Mirage is included in the Experimental Surroundings exhibition on view through November 4 at Walker Fine Art, 300 W. 11th Avenue, Denver, Colorado.

Free from recognizable elements, abstraction allows the artist to explore and
create experimental surroundings. In this group exhibition, 6 artists examine
constructed environments within their abstract work. Through sculpture,
painting and installation, a collective dialogue emerges regarding the
constant overlap of form, line, movement and perception of time.

More experiments in paper and fiber

In May, I started some new work combining fabric and paper. I wrote about by process here. I have several of these in progress, but now that I’ve got a second one finished, it’s officially a series. This piece is currently on view at the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder as part of the exhibition “75 — A Celebration of New Works in Fiber.” The exhibition was accompanied by several events which I’ll post about shortly.
